Rent your spare room to travelers

Here is a way to make some spare cash and help travelers save money on pricey hotel accommodation at the same time. AirBnB is a global network of accommodation offered by locals in cities all over the world. You can rent out your spare room, an entire apartment, caravan, boat or whatever accommodation you have that a person traveling could use. You set how much you want to charge per night, what the rules are, how many people can stay at the same time etc. This is a great way to make some extra money when you need it without the commitment of having someone renting at your place full time. All you have to do to get started is sign up at AirBnB (which is free) upload some photos and list your room.

My name is Antonia and I have been making use of my spare room for a number of years. I have recently turned to taking in foreign students in my home in London.

My students are sent to me by an agency I use http://www.hfslondon.com who work for educational institutions in London. It has been a rewarding experience. Although I don’t earn as much as when I used to take in lodgers (I used to use airbnb) but I feel more comfortable knowing that my foreign students are vetted by the language schools and my agency and I don’t have to worry as a single lady as much about who I am sharing my home with.

I have met some lovely students (all over 18 years old thankfully). Would suggest you look into it more if you before taking the plunge but Homestay has been a positive experience.
